Conflict of Interest

Policy Statement

Jurnal Manajemen Transportasi & Logistik (JMTRANSLOG) is committed to ensuring that editorial decisions, peer review, and publication are conducted fairly and independently. A conflict of interest, also referred to as a competing interest, exists when financial, professional, institutional, personal, or other relationships could influence, or reasonably be perceived to influence, the conduct, interpretation, evaluation, or publication of research.

Disclosure of a competing interest does not automatically mean that a manuscript is unsuitable for publication. However, relevant interests must be declared so that the editorial team can assess and manage them transparently.

Responsibilities of Authors

All authors must disclose actual or potential competing interests relevant to their manuscript. These may include:

  • Employment, consultancy, honoraria, paid advisory roles, or other financial relationships.
  • Funding, sponsorship, or material support from transportation operators, logistics providers, shipping companies, ports, freight forwarders, tourism businesses, or other organizations that may benefit from the findings.
  • Ownership of shares, patents, intellectual property, or commercial interests related to the research.
  • Personal, professional, institutional, or family relationships that could reasonably affect impartiality.
  • Participation in organizations or projects that may benefit from particular research conclusions or policy recommendations.

Authors must identify funding sources and describe the role of funders, where applicable, in the study design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, manuscript preparation, and decision to submit the work for publication.

If no competing interest exists, authors should provide an explicit declaration stating that they have no competing interests to disclose.

Responsibilities of Editors

Editors must disclose any actual or potential conflict that could compromise their impartiality in handling a manuscript. An editor with a relevant conflict must not oversee the review process or make the editorial decision for that manuscript. The manuscript should be reassigned to an independent editor when appropriate.

Relevant conflicts may include close collaboration with an author, direct financial involvement, a personal dispute, or a professional or institutional relationship that could reasonably affect impartiality.

Responsibilities of Reviewers

Reviewers must disclose relevant competing interests before accepting or continuing a review. They should decline an invitation when a conflict is likely to impair objectivity or when they lack the expertise needed to provide a fair assessment.

Reviewers must maintain the confidentiality of unpublished manuscripts and must not use information obtained through peer review for personal, professional, or commercial advantage. Their recommendations must be based on the scientific merit and relevance of the manuscript.

Assessment and Management

The editorial team will evaluate disclosed interests and determine whether additional measures are necessary, such as further clarification, reassignment of an editor or reviewer, independent assessment, or an additional declaration in the published article.

Editorial decisions must remain based on the quality, originality, methodological rigor, relevance, and ethical compliance of the work rather than on the presence or absence of commercial relationships alone.

Undisclosed Interests

If a relevant competing interest is identified after submission or publication, the journal may request an explanation and supporting information. Depending on the circumstances, the journal may require a corrected declaration, publish a correction or clarification, reassess the manuscript, or take further action if the undisclosed interest materially affects confidence in the research or editorial process.

All competing-interest matters will be handled with the aim of preserving fairness, transparency, confidentiality, and the integrity of the scholarly record.
