Generative AI Use Policy

Purpose and Scope

Jurnal Manajemen Transportasi & Logistik (JMTRANSLOG) recognizes that generative artificial intelligence (AI), large language models, and AI-assisted technologies may support certain activities in research and manuscript preparation. Their use must be transparent, responsible, and consistent with scientific integrity, confidentiality, publication ethics, and applicable intellectual property requirements.

This policy applies to authors, editors, and reviewers. It covers AI tools used to generate or substantially modify text, images, tables, code, data summaries, analytical outputs, or other material associated with a manuscript or editorial assessment.

Permitted Uses by Authors

Authors may use appropriate AI tools to assist with language editing, grammar, readability, translation, organization of text, or other legitimate supporting activities. Authors remain responsible for verifying the accuracy, originality, validity, and appropriateness of all AI-assisted content.

When AI tools have contributed to the generation or substantial modification of manuscript content, authors should disclose the tool or service used, its purpose, and the relevant aspects of the work in the disclosure statement or other location specified by the journal. Routine spelling or grammar checking that does not generate or materially alter scholarly content may not require a separate declaration unless otherwise specified by the journal.

Prohibited Uses

AI tools must not be used to fabricate or falsify research data, invent survey responses, create fictitious operational records, manipulate results deceptively, generate false references, or misrepresent the methods or findings of a study.

Authors must not use AI-generated content to conceal plagiarism, misrepresent originality, reproduce copyrighted material without appropriate permission, or present unsupported claims as established evidence. AI-generated references, quotations, calculations, analytical claims, and interpretations must be independently verified.

Transportation and Logistics Research

AI must not be used to manufacture evidence presented as actual traffic observations, passenger surveys, freight records, operational measurements, supply-chain data, financial results, or other empirical findings. Where AI-assisted techniques are part of the research methodology, authors must describe their use sufficiently for readers to evaluate the method and its limitations.

Authors must assess the limitations, potential bias, data quality, and validity of AI-assisted analyses. Conclusions must not exceed what the available data and analytical methods can support.

Authorship and Accountability

AI systems cannot be listed as authors or co-authors because they cannot accept responsibility for research integrity, approve a final manuscript, disclose competing interests, or respond to editorial inquiries. Human authors remain fully accountable for all content in the submitted and published work.

Confidentiality in Editorial Work

Editors and reviewers must protect the confidentiality of unpublished manuscripts, data, reviewer reports, and editorial correspondence. Confidential materials must not be entered into publicly accessible or third-party AI systems when doing so could compromise confidentiality, intellectual property, or data protection, unless the use is expressly authorized under appropriate safeguards.

AI-generated summaries or assessments must not replace independent scholarly judgment. Editors and reviewers remain responsible for the accuracy, fairness, and integrity of their evaluations.

Disclosure and Editorial Action

The journal may request clarification about AI use when disclosure is incomplete or when concerns arise regarding accuracy, originality, or research integrity. Inappropriate or undisclosed use of AI may lead to additional assessment, a request for revision, rejection, correction, or other proportionate editorial action, depending on the circumstances.

The use of AI does not automatically determine whether a manuscript will be accepted or rejected. Editorial decisions remain based on scientific merit, originality, relevance, methodological quality, and ethical compliance.
